Winter Film Awards and NYU Women’s Initiative present a day Celebrating Women in Film, including a three-hour matinee of short films made by women, an exciting discussion panel featuring leaders in the support of women filmmakers all followed by an evening double-feature of fantastic films made by women!
The news today is full of stories of harassment and abuse of women in the film industry. Depressing statistics come out all the time showing the critical under-representation of half the population in the premiere cultural showcase of our time. So, what do we do about this?
Join Winter Film Awards on Tuesday February 27 2018, 6-7:30 pm at Cinema Village (22 East 12th Street, NYC) for a panel discussion for women filmmakers. We’ll talk about resources available to help women enter and survive the industry, how to find and work with an industry mentor, tips for making your voice heard and your work standout, thriving in the industry and why it even matters that women are involved.
Following the panel, see a block of awesome indie films directed by women! Screening begins at 7:45 pm at Cinema Village and runs to 11pm with an intermission. Screening tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, $5 at the door with student ID.
The panel will be moderated by Judith Balkin, chair of the NYU Women’s Initiative and the NYU Arts and Entertainment Alumni Network. Panelists include Lauren Magura (CEO, Cinematcher), Maria C Miles (NYWIFT), Donna Zaccaro (President, Dazzling Media) and Jennifer Tyrell (Women in Animation).
Hosted by NYU Women’s Initiative and the NYU Arts & Entertainment Alumni Network as part of the 2018 Winter Film Awards International Film Festival. Winter Film Awards 7th annual Festival runs Feb 22-Mar 3 in NYC with a jam-packed schedule of 93 films by emerging filmmakers from 30 countries.
