Carl Goodman has worked at the Museum of the Moving Image for more than 25 years, having joined in 1989 as an educator. Since his appointment as Executive Director in 2011, Carl oversaw a three-fold increase in annual attendance, following the Museum’s acclaimed expansion and renovation. Over the years, he has served in a variety of capacities, including Curator of Digital Media, and as Director of New Media Projects. In these roles, he guided the production of the highly popular interactive experiences in the Museum’s core exhibition Behind the Screen, oversaw the development of the Museum’s innovative web projects, including The Living Room Candidate, an online exhibition about the history of presidential campaign commercials. Carl has organized many exhibitions for the Museum, including Computer Space, a history of video games; <ALT> DigitalMedia, a gallery of software-based art; and Real Virtuality, the inaugural exhibition in the expanded and renovated building.
In his commitment to the arts in New York City, Carl served as Chair of the New York City Cultural Institutions Group (CIG), which represents more than 30 museums and cultural organizations housed in City-owned buildings, and is a member of the Arts Education Committee of the NYC Department of Education.
