The year is 1960. Deep in the Australian wilderness, three cult members force an innocent woman to kneel before their pagan idol. Nearby, a handsome young driver sweats behind the wheel of a speeding car, hoping it’s not too late. Spoilia Oceani weaves a narrative of revenge, cult sacrifice and doomed love within a picturesque landscape. It is an epic tale combining quirky characters and stylized violence set to the mix of contemporary and orchestral styles that characterize Adelaide-based band Monkey Puzzle Tree.
About the Director
After studying filmmaking and its history, Stephen Banham wrote and directed short films, music videos and the micro-budget feature ‘Adelaide’. Through the South Australian Film Corporation’s Writing for Film initiative, he was selected from over fifty writers to develop the feature film ‘Drop Bears’. Stephen recently worked as David Michôd’s (‘Animal Kingdom’) assistant on ‘The Rover’ (Guy Pearce/Robert Pattinson), shadowing Michôd from pre-production to final day of shooting.
