Lion Kingdom portrays a strong-willed man, curious of his own expectations and mysterious discovery. A contrasting image to the world alludes him, and no one else, subtly detaching his body and mind from the busy streets of New York that surround him. Whether he accepts the powerful image by sight or fright, the juxtaposition creates a new meaning for him to live by. This film represents Darwin’s survival instincts on a cerebral level.

About the Director

The 17th century painting, Daniel in the Lion’s Den, inspired director Samuel Bassen to create his debut film “Lion Kingdom.” Regarding the painting, Bassen says, “I felt the contrast to humanity,” and he built a story depicting that conflict. The challenge in this short film was in capturing a man’s transformation without words. Bassen has always been mesmerized by motion pictures and holds high regard for Scorsese, Kubrick, and Nolan.
