In conjunction with its Stephen Burrows exhibit, the Museum of the City of New York is also holding a screening of the film Versailles ’73: American Runway Revolution. Our sister site recently recapped the gist of the documentary, which surrounds a “fashion show that started as a fundraiser for the Palace of Versailles and turned into a full-on battle between French and American designers.” Those designers included Yves St. Laurent, Christian Dior and Emanuel Ungaro on the French side, and Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass, Anne Klein and Stephen Burrows on the American side.
On May 16th, the museum will host a screening of the film, followed by a panel discussion with several of the fashion show’s model—Pat Cleveland, Charlene Dash and Alva Chinn—as well as with executive director Deborah Riley Draper. Tickets are $6 for museum members, $8 for students, $12 for the general public, and can be purchased here.· Versailles ’73: The Fashion Show That’s About To Be Everywhere
